Does Botox hurt?

Most people call it a quick pinch. I use very fine needles, and the injections themselves take a few minutes. The whole visit usually runs 20 to 30 minutes, and most of that is us talking. If needles make you nervous, say so. We can slow down, and you can take a breath between areas.

How long does it last?

Downtime and aftercare

There's no real downtime. Most people go back to work or errands the same day. You might see small bumps or a little redness where the needle went in for a short while, and a bruise is possible. I go over aftercare before you leave, so ask me then if you have a workout or a facial planned that day.

Results take up to two weeks to settle, so Botox the week of a wedding or photos is cutting it close. Book two weeks or more ahead.

Your first visit

We talk first. I watch how your forehead, your 11s, and the corners of your eyes move while you talk and while your face is relaxed, and we agree on a plan before I pick up a needle.

Is Botox safe?

Botox and Dysport are prescription drugs. Tell me at your consult, before anything is injected, if any of these apply:

• You're pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
• You have a condition that affects muscles or nerves, such as myasthenia gravis, ALS, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or you've had trouble swallowing or breathing.
• There's swelling or any sign of infection where we'd inject.
• You've had a side effect from any botulinum toxin product before.

What I can't tell you from a webpage

I can't tell you how many units you need or exactly how long your result will last. Both depend on your muscles, and I find out by watching your face move at the consult and checking the result at two weeks. If a line is still there when your face is completely relaxed, Botox may soften it without erasing it, and I'll tell you that honestly rather than sell you extra units.
