Dr. G's medical oversight

When you book with me, your treatment is done under Dr. G's medical oversight. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, following physician-directed protocols. Dr. G is a physician with 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. That means a nurse and a physician both stand behind the plan for your face.

Who it works for, and who it doesn't

The under-eye is the most delicate area on the face, and honesty matters most here. Dark circles have more than one cause. Filler is meant for hollowness, the dip between the lower lid and the cheek. If your circles come mostly from skin color or puffiness, filler may not be the right tool. I'll look closely, in good light, before I recommend anything.

Sometimes the better first step is the midface. Lost volume in the cheeks can deepen the hollow under the eye, which is why cheek filler comes up in some under-eye consults.

What under-eye filler costs

Filler is priced per syringe and quoted at your free consult. Under-eye treatments use small amounts, but I'd be guessing if I quoted you before seeing your face. The pricing page explains how it's priced, and you get a specific estimate before anything is booked. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel pressure more than pain. Most HA fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine. I work slowly here, and you can ask me to stop at any time.

How long does it last?

There’s no single answer. The FDA says how long a filler lasts depends on the filler material and where it’s injected, and that absorbable fillers break down over time, so the treatment may need repeating. I won’t promise you a number of months. We’ll look at how your result is holding at your two-week follow-up.

Downtime

Swelling for a few days is normal, and bruising is possible because the skin here is thin. Most people go back to their day with some concealer. Book at least two weeks before an event, so the result has settled.

Your first visit

We talk first, and I look at your under-eyes from the front and the side, in different light. If filler is right for you, I place small, conservative amounts of reversible HA filler. Your included two-week follow-up is where the final result gets checked and refined. HA filler can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if it ever needs to come out, which is a procedure with its own risks.

Is under-eye filler safe?

The FDA's page on dermal fillers explains the risks. Based on that guidance, wait or bring it up at your consult if:

  • You're under 22. The FDA approves dermal fillers for adults 22 and older.
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA says filler safety is unknown during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Your skin is inflamed or infected where we'd treat, including active acne, a rash, or hives.
  • You have a bleeding disorder, severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis, or an allergy to lidocaine.
  • You tend to form keloids or raised scars.

The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching as common filler side effects, and says many clear up within days to weeks. The most serious risk is filler getting into a blood vessel. The FDA calls that chance low, but it can cause tissue damage, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Get care right away for unusual pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns white, gray, or blue. Near the eyes, vision changes are the warning sign to take most seriously. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.

What I can't tell you from a webpage

I can't tell from a photo whether your shadows come from hollowness, skin color, or puffiness, and that's the whole question. If filler isn't right, I'll say so and point you toward what might help. For a plan that looks at the whole face, read about facial balancing, or browse the full services menu.
