The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists the approved cosmetic areas: frown lines, crow's feet, forehead lines, and neck (platysma) bands. The upper lip isn't on that list, so this is an off-label use. Off-label use is common in aesthetics, and I'd rather tell you up front than have you find out later.
Bring your answers from the mirror test. We go through them together, I tell you if a flip will make a visible difference, and if you go ahead, the two-week follow-up is included, with a unit or two added at no charge if needed.
Botox and Dysport are prescription drugs. MedlinePlus summarizes the patient information for onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) and abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport). Before we book, I'll ask about pregnancy or breastfeeding, any nerve or muscle condition such as myasthenia gravis, ALS, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, trouble swallowing or breathing, and any past reaction to a botulinum toxin product. If one applies, we wait or skip it. The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists side effects such as eyelid or brow drooping and headache. Singers, wind players, and people who talk for a living should mention it too, since the flip relaxes the muscle used to purse the lips.
