Dr. G's medical oversight

Every treatment I do at Canvas & Glow is done under Dr. G's medical oversight. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, following physician-directed protocols. Dr. G has 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.

A first Botox visit, step by step

If you've never had Botox, not knowing what happens next is usually the worst part. Here's how a first appointment with me goes:

  1. We talk. You tell me what bothers you, and I ask about your health history and anything you've had injected before.
  2. I watch your face move. Frowning, raising your brows, squinting, and talking show me which muscles are doing the work.
  3. We agree on a plan and a number. I tell you how many units I'd use and what that comes to at $13 each, before I pick up a needle.
  4. The injections. A quick pinch at each spot, and the injecting itself takes a few minutes.
  5. Aftercare. I go over it before you leave, so ask then about anything you have planned for the rest of the day.
  6. The two-week follow-up. It's included. I check the settled result and adjust at no charge if something needs it.

The whole visit usually runs 20 to 30 minutes, and most of that is the talking part.

Why a first dose is a light one

I dose on the light side the first time. Adding a few units at two weeks is easy. Taking them out isn't possible. It also means first-timers usually spend less than they feared, since you only pay for the units I use.

The tradeoff is honest: if your lines are deep or your muscles are strong, a light first dose may not do everything you hoped. That's what the follow-up is for. We look at the result together and decide what, if anything, to add.

What it costs

All neurotoxins are $13 per unit with me, including Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Letybo. Coming from Denver doesn't change the price. These are the typical ranges from my pricing page:

Treatment areaTypical unitsEstimated cost at $13/unit
Forehead lines10 to 20 units$130 to $260
Frown lines (11s)20 to 25 units$260 to $325

Botox, Dysport, or another brand?

Because every brand I carry is the same $13 per unit, price doesn't have to make the choice for you. The products are dosed differently, so unit counts can vary by product and area. I recommend whichever one fits your goals and quote it exactly at your visit. If you've had one before and liked it, tell me.

Does it hurt?

Most people say it's a quick pinch. I use very fine needles. If you're nervous, say so, and we'll go slower and pause between areas.

Downtime

There's no real downtime. Most people go back to work or errands the same day. A small bump or a little redness where the needle went in can show for a short while, and a bruise is possible.

How long results last

You'll usually notice a change in the first few days, and it settles at about two weeks. MedlinePlus notes that cosmetic Botox for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet may be repeated every 3 to 4 months, depending on how long the effect lasts. I won't promise a number for your face. If you have a wedding or photos coming up, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has settled and we've had the follow-up.

Safety, and when to wait

Botox and Dysport are prescription drugs. MedlinePlus summarizes the patient information for onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) and abobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport). Tell me before anything is injected if:

  • You're pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • You have a condition that affects muscles or nerves, such as myasthenia gravis, ALS, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or you've had trouble swallowing or breathing.
  • There's swelling or any sign of infection where we'd inject.
  • You've had a side effect from any botulinum toxin product before.

The FDA prescribing information for Botox Cosmetic lists side effects such as eyelid or brow drooping and headache. The CDC has tracked people hurt by counterfeit product or by someone without a valid license, and its page on botulinum toxin injections is worth reading before you book anywhere.

What I can't tell you yet

I can't tell you your unit count before I've seen your face move, and I can't promise how long it will last. If you're thinking about your lips too, see lip filler in Denver, NC or a lip flip. For a whole-face plan, there's facial balancing in Denver, NC. Everything else is on the services page.
