Dr. G's medical oversight

Every treatment I do at Canvas & Glow is done under Dr. G's medical oversight. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, following physician-directed protocols. Dr. G has 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.

Match the treatment to the concern

Here's how I usually sort the common lip concerns. Filler is quoted per syringe at your free consult, and the consult is where we confirm which row fits your face.

What bothers youUsually a job forHow it's priced
Lips look thin or have lost volumeHA lip fillerPer syringe

Sometimes the lips aren't the real issue. Lips can look large because the chin is small, and if that's what I see, I'll tell you. Facial balancing in Denver, NC covers that kind of whole-face plan.

Filler or a lip flip?

They do different things. HA filler changes how much lip there is and can define the border. A lip flip relaxes the muscle that curls the top lip in, so more of it shows when you smile, without adding volume. Some people do both. The details are on my lip flip page.

What it costs

Lip filler is priced per syringe and quoted at your free consult, the same for everyone. I don't post filler dollar amounts that aren't on the menu, and you get a specific number before anything is booked. A lip flip is the one lip treatment with a published price. See the pricing page. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream goes on first, and some fillers already contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine. Lips are a sensitive area, but most people find it easier than they feared. Tell me if you want a break.

Downtime

Expect a few days of swelling and possibly a bruise. The FDA's dermal filler dos and don'ts also notes that swelling can flare after an illness, a vaccine, or dental work, so mention anything like that coming up. Most people go back to work the same day. Book at least two weeks before an event, so the swelling is gone and we've had the follow-up.

How long it lasts

The FDA says how long a filler lasts depends on the filler material and where it's injected, and that absorbable fillers break down over time, so the treatment may need repeating. HA fillers are reversible, but how long yours lasts depends on the product and on you, so I give you a range at the consult.

Your first visit

Bring the concern, in your own words, and a photo of a look you like if it helps. I look at your lips at rest and moving, review your health history, and tell you which row of that table I think you're in. If we go ahead, I place a conservative amount. Two weeks later you come back, and I adjust anything at no charge.

Safety

Tell me before anything is injected if:

  • You're under 22. The FDA approves dermal fillers for adults 22 and older.
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA says filler safety is unknown during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Your skin is inflamed or infected where we'd treat, including active acne, a rash, or hives.
  • You have a bleeding disorder, severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis, or an allergy to lidocaine.
  • You tend to form keloids or raised scars.
  • There's a cold sore, swelling, or any sign of infection on or around your lips.

The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching as common dermal filler side effects and says many clear up within days to weeks. The most serious risk is filler getting into a blood vessel. The FDA calls that chance low, but it can cause tissue damage, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Get care right away for unusual pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns white, gray, or blue.

What I can't promise

I can't tell you from a webpage how much filler you need or how your lips will respond. For Botox elsewhere on the face, see Botox in Denver, NC. The full menu is on the services page.
