Sculptra in Huntersville, NC is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulator that helps your body build collagen over time, so the change comes gradually instead of on the day. I'm Kat Chapman, BSN, RN. I do Sculptra at Canvas & Glow on Sam Furr Road in Huntersville, under the supervision of a medical director.

Sculptra is done under the supervision of a medical director, like every treatment I do. I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, following physician-directed protocols. My medical director has 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.
Sculptra is made of PLLA, a material the body breaks down over time. Instead of filling a spot the way hyaluronic acid (HA) filler does, it's used to help your body build its own collagen. That's why I call it a biostimulator and why the result is slow and soft rather than instant.
The FDA's page on approved dermal fillers describes PLLA, the material in Sculptra, as a long-lasting filler given in a series of injections over a period of several months. It says the effects generally become more apparent over several weeks and may last up to 2 years.
Sculptra makes the most sense for broad, gradual volume loss across the face, when you look a little deflated rather than missing volume in one spot. If you want a defined change in one area, like a sharper jaw or a fuller lip, HA filler is usually the better tool. See dermal filler in Huntersville for that side.
No. The FDA notes that fillers not made of materials such as hyaluronic acid can be difficult or impossible to remove. That's the honest trade-off: HA filler can be dissolved, and Sculptra can't. That's one reason I start conservatively and plan sessions apart, so we can see how your skin responds before adding more.
On my pricing page, Sculptra is priced per session and quoted at consult. The total depends mostly on how many sessions your plan needs, so I give you the session price and the expected number at your free consult before anything is booked. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.
Most people feel pressure and a few pinches. Some fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine; whether the product you get does is something I'll go over with you, and we talk through numbing at your consult.
Expect some swelling and possible bruising for a few days. The FDA says most filler side effects, like swelling and bruising, show up soon after injection and many resolve in a few days to weeks. Most people go back to their day after the visit.
The FDA says PLLA effects generally show up gradually over several weeks and may last up to 2 years. That's the FDA's general description of the material, not a promise for your face, and I'll tell you honestly at follow-up how yours is going.
We start with a free consult. I look at your face at rest and while you talk, from the front and the side, and we talk about whether Sculptra, HA filler, Radiesse, or nothing at all fits what you're seeing. If Sculptra is right, you leave with a session plan and a price.
The FDA's page on dermal fillers explains the risks. Based on that guidance, wait or bring it up at your consult if:
The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching as common dermal filler side effects and says many clear up within days to weeks. The most serious risk is filler getting into a blood vessel. The FDA calls that chance low, but it can cause tissue damage, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Get care right away for unusual pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns white, gray, or blue.
