Dr. G's medical oversight

I'm the licensed RN doing the injection, and every treatment is done under Dr. G's medical oversight, following physician-directed protocols. Dr. G has 23 years of practice and about 12 years in aesthetics. You can look up my license on the North Carolina Board of Nursing site.

Who jawline filler tends to help

Filler adds structure. It does its best work when the jaw or chin is missing structure in the first place:

  • A jawline that has always been soft, without a clear edge
  • A chin that is small or sits back in profile
  • A small hollow just in front of the jowl that breaks up the line of the jaw
  • A face that feels bottom-light next to the cheeks and lips

When I'd steer you away from it

Some jawlines soften because of loose skin or fat under the chin. Filler adds volume, and volume won't tighten skin or remove fat. Adding product there can make the lower face look heavier. If that's what I see, I'll tell you filler isn't the right tool for it.

I'll also hold off if you're under 22, pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any of the other reasons to wait listed below. A no at the consult costs you nothing.

Cost

Jawline and chin filler is priced per syringe and quoted at your free consult. The jaw is a structural area and usually takes more product than lips. You get a specific estimate before anything is booked, and the pricing page shows how it's priced. Financing through Cherry and CareCredit is available for treatment plans.

Does it hurt?

Mostly pressure, since placement along the jaw is deep. Some fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing medicine, which helps as I go.

How long does it last?

The FDA says how long a filler lasts depends on the filler material and where it's injected, and that absorbable fillers break down over time, so the treatment may need repeating. HA fillers are reversible.

Downtime

Expect some swelling or tenderness for a few days, and a bruise is possible. Most visits run under an hour, and most people get back to their day afterward. Leave two weeks before an event.

Your first visit

This is where we find out if you're a good fit. I look at your jaw and chin from the front and the side, at rest and while you talk, and I look closely at the skin along the jaw. Then I tell you honestly whether filler will do what you want, and if so, the plan and the price. Your two-week follow-up is included.

Is it safe?

The FDA's page on dermal fillers explains the risks. Based on that guidance, wait or bring it up at your consult if:

  • You're under 22. The FDA approves dermal fillers for adults 22 and older.
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA says filler safety is unknown during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Your skin is inflamed or infected where we'd treat, including active acne, a rash, or hives.
  • You have a bleeding disorder, severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis, or an allergy to lidocaine.
  • You tend to form keloids or raised scars.

The FDA lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching as common dermal filler side effects and says many clear up within days to weeks. The most serious risk is filler getting into a blood vessel. The FDA calls that chance low, but it can cause tissue damage, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. Get care right away for unusual pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns white, gray, or blue.

The honest uncertainty

I can't judge skin quality or fat from a photo, so I can't tell you online whether you're a candidate. If filler isn't the answer for your jaw, other areas might be. See cheek filler in Davidson, facial balancing in Davidson, or the services page.
